For this Workshop Black and White Photography (workshop zwart-wit fotografie) we welcome a very special guest photographer from Ireland, Steven Maybury. This talented photographer and experienced photography educator has a passion for black and white photography. He knows how to apply an artistic approach in black and white photographs and will teach you how to develop an eye to see in black and white.
About the photographer Steven Maybury
Steven is a very talented photographer and has been photographing for the last 15 years. He is a full-time artist, currently undergoing a Masters in Fine Art in The Piet Zwart Institute. Photography was his first passion, and it is brilliantly assisted by his career as an artist. He currently teaches photography in NCAD University in Ireland and has worked as the head of teaching in The Dublin Photography School for 10 years. He also has worked as a curator and project manager for The PhotoIreland Festival and was a lead in The Library Project photography space in Dublin. He is a self-taught photographer who has worked and taught photography all around the world.
The Workshop Black & White photography program & Location
This black and white photography workshop is a 3-hour session in the city center of Rotterdam.
Before the practical part in the city center, you will receive a PDF with information about black and white photography. A good way to prepare yourself for the upcoming workshop. This information will be put into practice. A photo walk has been tailored, putting you into the right places and positions to help you see the potential for black and white photographs. A nice mix of styles and types of photographs will be on the agenda.
After the workshop, you will get access to a 1-hour video tutorial about black and white photo editing. You can apply this to your own photographs and upload your results in our online photography platform. We will make sure you get a free account and instructions about how to upload the photos. Steven will review the photos and can give you additional tips.

Will the photo walk continue with bad weather conditions?
We keep a close eye on the weather forecasts, it's possible we choose to cancel the workshop up to 12 hours before we start. We inform you by email, so please check your mailbox before you leave. In case of cancellation, we'll arrange a new date for the photo walk. In case of limited rainfall, the workshop will continue.
Required to attend
For this black and white photography course you need to understand the basics of photography (aperture, shutter speed and ISO). You need to bring your own DSLR camera, mirrorless camera or hybrid camera with an aperture mode (A or Av), shutter speed priority (S of Tv) and manual mode (M). Any standard camera lens is suitable for this course.
Pricing
The price of the workshop black and white photography is 79 euro including VAT. It also includes coffee/tea at the start of the workshop, photo reviews through our online student platform and access to a 1-hour video tutorial about black and white photo editing.

Normally I do not say this after every photography workshop, but this one was a real eye opener for me. Through this B&W photography workshop, I have discovered a new way of seeing the ordinary things.
Geweldige workshop. Steven is een uitstekende en ervaren leraar en weet de stof goed uit te leggen, maar nog belangrijker is dat hij je in staat stelt om het ook te oefenen.
Rotterdam is een uitstekende stad voor dit soort fotografie. Steven kent een aantal mooie plekken om helemaal los te gaan.
Wat ik ook merk is dat hij meer uit de kunst komt dan uit de fotografie, wat er voor zorgt dat het niet gaat om de werking van de camera, lenzen etc etc, maar juist om met de camera als tool er uit te halen wat je wil en kan.

Leuke workshop in interessante, afwisselende omgeving. Enthousiaste en gedreven docent, die ook aanzet om eens anders dan anders te fotograferen en daardoor een extra beroep doet op je creativiteit.

Steven is a great teacher, because of his ability to share his knowledge in a fun and understanding way. The workshop gives you ample of opportunity to bring into practice the tips and tricks Steven shares. If there is ever a follow up course I would definitely sign up.

Great photography course if you are into black and white photography. The educator make you look in a different way and because of that your black and white photos get stronger.
During the course I learned a lot. Now I look different to my surrounding, I see more possibilities. I also learned a lot about Lightroom.
